Welcome to today's devotional. As we step into a new week, this call from Scripture is both a reminder and a charge: stand fast. Freedom in Christ is not just a moment of salvation — it is a lifestyle that must be consciously maintained. Through His death and resurrection, Jesus secured our liberty from sin, condemnation, fear, and every spiritual bondage. Yet, many believers unknowingly drift back into chains Christ already broke.
To "stand fast" means to remain firm, grounded, and unshaken. It is possible to be free and yet live as though bound — by guilt, habits, fear of the past, or pressure from the world. Jesus declared in John 8:36, "If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed." This freedom is complete, not partial. It touches the mind, heart, and spirit.
Consider the story of the Israelites. Though delivered from Egypt, many still carried Egypt in their hearts. They longed for what once enslaved them (Exodus 16:3). In contrast, we are called to walk fully in the new life Christ has given. Likewise, in our own lives today, someone may be delivered from addiction or a destructive lifestyle but still battle thoughts of unworthiness or fear. Standing fast means rejecting those lies and embracing the truth of God's Word daily — that you have been set free from every past and present sin you have genuinely repented of, and are no longer walking in them. "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." — 1 John 1:9.
The liberty we have is not a licence to sin, but the power to live righteously. Romans 8:2 tells us that the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made us free from the law of sin and death. This means you are no longer controlled by your past or your weaknesses — you are empowered by the Spirit of Christ that dwells in you.
This new week is an opportunity to walk boldly in that freedom. Refuse every chain — whether emotional, spiritual, or mental — that tries to hold you back. Stand firm in your identity as a redeemed child of God. Let your life reflect the victory Christ has already won for you at the cross, and given to you as His son or daughter in Him.
Declaration for Today — the 1st Day of the Week: I declare that I stand firm in the liberty Christ has given me. I refuse every yoke of bondage. I walk in freedom, boldness, and righteousness. This week, I am led by the Spirit, free from fear, guilt, and limitation. I live as a victorious child of God, in Jesus' name. Amen.
